A Beginner’s Guide to Creative Well-Being, Part 6

Here it is — the sixth installment of A Beginner’s Guide to Creative Well-Being AND the second part of The 3-P Curse. I’ll be posting most installments every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the next two weeks — that’s six more entries in this life-changing guide to living a better life. And speaking of living a better life…don’t forget that the Kickstarter campaign for my mini-comic FEELING MESSED UP is still going, and there’s time for you to show your support, both by backing the project with god old-fashioned money, but also by telling your family and friends (and possibly your enemies, too). https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dfwalker/feeling-messed-up

A Beginner’s Guide to Creative Well-Being, Part 5

I’m happy to share today’s lesson from A Beginner’s Guide to Creative Well-Being, the first part of something that I call “The 3-P Curse.” This particular lesson is one that I share with my students all the time, as well as with anyone asking me for creative advice…it also happens to be one of my most hardcore philosophies when it comes to CW-B. As a reminder — I’m running a Kickstarter campaign for my new mini-comic FEELING MESSED UP, and we’re just under $400 from unlocking a very special stretch goal — a free PDF copy of A Beginner’s Guide to Creative Well-Being for all backers. Please take a look, consider backing the campaign, and spread the word. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dfwalker/feeling-messed-up

Fighting My Depression

My depression gets out of control sometimes. Sunday night was one of those times. It was brutal. I’m talking some dark-night-of-the-soul type depression. Maybe some of you have felt this way. Profoundly sad. Hopeless. Indifferent to being alive. That’s where I was on Sunday… feeling like I was slipping deeper and deeper into an oblivion of despair. And as I lay in bed, unable to fall asleep, I was faced with two choices: continue to lie there and hope that I could simply cease to exist, or I could crawl out of bed and fight my depression by making fun of it. I chose the latter, and decided to turn what I was feeling into a comic.

It’s not the first time I’ve done it, but this time I did it by repurposing what was supposed to be a sticker for my FEELING MESSED UP crowdfunding campaign. I took my overwhelming depression, a sticker design, and I turned it into a two-page short comic. And now I’m adding it to FEELING MESSED UP, because that was the entire point of creating project in the first place. You can read the entire comic, and the other shorts about depression, donuts, and insomnia in the mini-comic FEELING MESSED UP. The Kickstarter campaign is going on right now. Please take the time to check it out, consider backing it, and spread the word. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dfwalker/feeling-messed-up

A Beginner’s Guide to CREATIVE WELL-BEING, Part 3

Today’s subject is THE CYCLE OF CREATIVITY, PART 1. I’ll be posting lessons from A Beginner’s Guide to Creative Well-Being every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until October 24th. These posts are in conjunction with the crowdfunding campaign for my mini-comic, FEELING MESSED UP, my new mini-comic. A PDF of all the CREATIVE WELL-BEING posts will be added as a stretch goal if the campaign hits $3,000, and all backers will get a free copy.
